Blog stage 8 Comment on Stage 7 Blog

In the blog If You Ask Me the author addresses the recent decision by President Obama to push back immigration reform for another year. While I agree that there is a lot on the table right now the issue of immigration needs to be addressed. I agree with the author that putting this off again could lead to big problems with national security among other huge issues. Illegal aliens are helping drain our resources and there is talk of passing legislation that will let them draw social security. This is wrong on many levels. I am not against immigration but I do believe everyone should have to follow the rules of citizenship and pay their share. The suggestion that President Obama find a way to balance the pressing issues that are on today's agenda is perhaps the only way of getting the problem solved rather than putting it on the side. I share the author's fears of immigration being pushed back over and over and becoming a bigger problem without resolve. Part of the problem with immigration as well as health care is that it has been put to the side for years and not dealt with. These issues have blown up into critical problems and the time to act is now.

Global Warming-Everyone's responsiblity

Global Warming can be defined as "the increase of the average temperature on Earth. As the Earth is getting hotter, disasters like hurricanes, droughts and floods are getting more frequent.” But is that really the case of is history repeating itself? This has been an ongoing debate with no clear outcome. Perhaps it is best that we do our own research to see what is really going on.

If you search the internet for information on the subject of Global Warming you will see anything from articles that will scare you to death with doom and gloom outcomes and others that tell the pros and cons that may come with Global Warming. All you have to do is search the internet on this subject and you get responses from people who are all for government intervention and those who feel that it is a way for government to further tell us what to do, how to do it and how much of it we can do. In a blog by Harry Fuller and Heather Clancy you can see opinions from those who have responded to this article. These opinions show that people are passionate about this issue as we should be.

Whatever the scientific data is and whether or not global warming is actually changing our climate a few things are clear:

The government should step up regulations that hold companies to stricter guidelines on how to control pollutants. We can start at home (in U.S.) but would have to also be done on a national level. There is no harm in keeping pollutants under control even if they don’t result in global warming. They do cause cancer in humans and destroy wildlife.

Our children and their children will not enjoy the beauty of nature if we keep destroying it with ugly chemical and industrial plants.

Going “green “only benefits us and in the process we are creating less waste and preserving what is left of our national resources. It makes since that recycling, controlling the amount of pollutants allowed into the air by companies and cleaner burning automobiles will benefit us all. The Clean Air Act was passed in 1990. This was the last major change in law regarding pollution. I believe we need to make our voices heard and make amendments to this act. Again it needs to be global so that everyone is participating. If the U.S. is controlling their pollution levels and China, for example, is continuing to spew out toxins into the air we will be defeated in our clean air quest.

Commentary on blog-Racist Boston Police Officer

In the blog, Racist Boston Police Officer, there is a valid point made on the recklessness of one mans comments to a situation that in my opinion was not racial at the time. This situation turned into something bigger than it was originally because of poor judgment from several people, President Obama included. When it became about race rather than what it actually was--The police officers responding to a possible break and trying to get to the bottom of who owned the house and why were they trying to "break" in, it turned very ugly. Officer Barrett was completely out of line with his comments. And President Obama did not even have the full story before commenting that this was a racial incident.
These times are very tough for all Americans. The economy has taken a down hill spiral, we are still at War and it seems possible that any day we could be in another war. These things are stressful enough without having fellow Americans attack each other. At the end of the day we are all one race--Americans. We should help each other rather than use hurtful, unnecessary remarks that are meant to degrade another person. There is no benefit to that only destruction.
